There are hundreds of different marijuana strains out there. In some places, like here in California, there are so many available to choose from that you might not ever try them all! Then there are the three types of marijuana plants: Indica, Sativa, and hybrid. When an Indica and Sativa plant are crossbred, they create a new hybrid strain.
Each type of plant gives off its own strains, meaning the possibilities are almost endless. But some strains are more potent than others, and some will give you a much stronger high than others. Most people who smoke marijuana often know their favorite strain. Everyone is different, someone might not like a strain that you think is the best. What is your favorite strain of marijuana?
But even though everyone has their own opinions on the best weed strain out there, there are some facts behind which strains are actually the “best”. When I say best, I mean the most potent, powerful marijuana strains that deliver great effects and possibly that perfect high. However, when we get into a discussion about the “perfect” high, that’s when opinions come in.
A Brief Background
Since the beginning of marijuana ever being smoked, marijuana has become much more potent. This is because the amount of THC in marijuana has increased over time. In the 1990s, the amount of THC found in marijuana strains was around 4 percent. In 2014, THC levels were up to 37 percent! With that being said, the best strains out there are strains that are fairly new.
Best Marijuana Strains Ever
So, let’s take a look at a breakdown of the best, or most popular, marijuana strains out there. This list is in no particular order, not best to worst or vice versa. If you think a good strain was left out in this list, then drop a comment about that strain below!
1. Godfather OG (Hybrid)
According to High Times, Godfather OG is “the most potent marijuana strain on the planet.” It is a hybrid strain, but mostly Indica. It’s a cross of three different strains: OG Kush, Granddaddy Purp, and Cherry Pie. Smoking this strain will give you a euphoric feeling, along with relaxation throughout your whole body. Since it is Indica dominant, it might also put you to sleep if you smoke enough of it.
2. Girl Scout Cookies (Hybrid)
This strain has a good balance of effects to it. It has been known to provide pain relief and treat nausea, as well as loss of appetite (meaning it brings the munchies!). GSC is a cross between OG Kush and Durban Poison and is also very potent. This strain has a sweet scent as well as sweet flavors and smokes very smoothly.
3. Trainwreck (Hybrid)
Looking for a strain that has good medical and recreational values? Then Trainwreck might be your go-to strain. On the medical side of this strain, Trainwreck has been known to treat anxiety, arthritis, pain, migraines, ADD/ADHD, and PTSD. Most medical marijuana patients can use and benefit from this popular and well-loved strain. But when it comes to recreational purposes (these may also be medical purposes, however), you may experience happiness, creativity, and relief from smoking some Trainwreck.
4. Blue Dream (Hybrid)
Personally, this was the first strain that I ever smoked. My opinion on this strain is that it delivers a good, strong high and is perfect for people who are just starting to smoke. But let’s stick to the facts. Blue Dream is Sativa dominant and is known to be a “thoughtful” high, or makes you think deeper than usual. It also has a calming effect but is actually great for daytime use. It is known to relieve pain, depression, and nausea. But I am not the only one that thinks Blue Dream is great for rookie smokers, that belief is actually very popular.
5. Sour Diesel (Sativa)
If you need a strain to wake you up and get you energized, then this strain might be your choice. It gets its name from the diesel-like scent that it gives off when smoked. Sour Diesel can give off quick relief from pain, stress, and depression. It can also give you high adrenaline, so don’t smoke this strain right before you go to sleep.
6. Grandaddy Purple (Indica)
Also known as Grandaddy Purp, this Indica strain is well known for its small hairs of purple inside the nugs, making it look visually impressive. It is also well known for relieving some of the worst cases of insomnia, making it ideal for relaxing or putting someone to sleep (great couchlock strain). But that’s not all; this strain can also relieve severe pain, stress, appetite loss, and muscle spasms. If you love Indica strains, then you’ll probably love GDP.
7. Green Crack (Sativa)
One of the most powerful Sativa strains, Green Crack delivers an energizing high that will keep you up and going. Don’t worry, this strain has nothing to do with actual crack cocaine, it is 100 percent marijuana. For medical uses, Green Crack can treat stress, fatigue, and depression. Fun fact: this strain was named by Snoop Dogg.
8. OG Kush (Hybrid)
How could we forget this very popular, and very potent, marijuana strain: OG Kush? We just couldn’t, which is why it’s on the list! OG Kush is especially popular on the west coast of the United States and is associated with a heavy euphoria since it is very potent. This strain is known to treat ADD/ADHD and also relieve stress and migraines.
9. Tahoe OG (Indica)
This Indica strain is best used at night. This is because it is strong in putting someone to sleep and treating insomnia. Also, this strain is great for treating pain and lack of appetite. Tahoe OG is popular for how fast its effects kick in. So if you need something to help you fall asleep at night, try some Tahoe OG.
10. Pineapple Express (Sativa)
Want to stay busy? Then smoke some Pineapple Express! This strain has been well known to be associated with boosting one’s desire to be productive. It is by far more of a recreational strain since it is mostly used for getting active and being in a better mood. The nugs are also full of colors and, when smoked, full of flavors!
Final Note
This is by far not the top marijuana strain out there. Some strains did get left off the list, but these are the ten main strains that you should know about. Did you notice how most are hybrid strains? That’s because, in the process of crossbreeding strains, the new hybrid strain will take cannabinoids from both parent strains, making it more potent than both parents.
So if you are ever looking for some new strains to try out, give some of these a try! Again, if you think I left out a good strain, leave it in the comments below. Different people have different opinions on which strains are the best, and here at Reefer Post, we encourage opinions and feedback, so let us know! Thanks for reading!
